Product Description

2026 Ducati Desmo450 MX

The Ducati Desmo450 MX is Ducati's groundbreaking entry into the motocross world, slated for release as a 2026 model.It's a purpose-built motocross machine that incorporates Ducati's signature engineering and racing DNA. Here's a breakdown of what makes it special:

Key Highlights:

  • Desmodromic Valve Timing: The "Desmo" in the name refers to Ducati's unique desmodromic valve actuation system. Unlike traditional valve springs, this system uses a mechanical method to close the valves, allowing for higher engine speeds (up to 11,900 rpm), more aggressive cam profiles, and potentially improved power and starting performance. This is a first for a production motocross bike.

  • High-Performance Engine: The Desmo450 MX is powered by a 449.6 cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke single-cylinder engine with a bore and stroke of 96 mm x 62.1 mm and a high compression ratio of 13.5:1. It delivers a claimed 63.5 hp (46.7 kW) at 9,400 rpm and a maximum torque of 39.5 lb-ft (53.5 Nm) at 7,500 rpm. The engine features titanium intake valves and sodium-filled steel exhaust valves for optimal performance and heat management.

  • Advanced Electronics: In a segment first, the Desmo450 MX is equipped with Ducati Traction Control (DTC)specifically developed for motocross (patent pending). This system analyzes rear wheel slip and intervenes to optimize traction. It has four levels of intervention and can be temporarily deactivated via the clutch lever. Other electronic features include:
    • Two Riding Modes: Configurable via the accessory X-Link app.
    • Two Throttle Response maps.
    • Launch Control: To aid in getting the perfect start.
    • Engine Brake Control (EBC): Allows the rider to manage engine braking.
    • Quick Shift (upshift only): For seamless gear changes without using the clutch.
    • Wi-Fi module: For connecting to the accessory connectivity system and X-Link app for customization and monitoring.

  • Lightweight and Agile Chassis: The bike features an aluminum perimeter frame constructed from cast, forged, and extruded parts, weighing only 8.96 kg. This design aims for optimal lightness, reliability, and stiffness. The frame is composed of just 11 main elements, minimizing welds.

  • Premium Suspension and Brakes:
    • Front Suspension: Fully adjustable Showa 49 mm upside-down forks with 310 mm of travel and Kashima coating on the fork legs for reduced friction.

    • Rear Suspension: Fully adjustable Showa monoshock with 301 mm of wheel travel, linked to a cast aluminum swingarm with forged aluminum linkage.

    • Brakes: Brembo system with a single 260 mm Galfer front disc and a two-piston floating caliper, and a 240 mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper.

  • High-Quality Components: The Desmo450 MX is equipped with Takasago Excel aluminum rims with Alpina spokes and Pirelli Scorpion MX32 Mid-Soft tires, highlighting its focus on performance and durability.

  • Ergonomics: The bike is designed to be compact, allowing for maximum rider freedom of movement and control. The contact surfaces are designed to provide references and facilitate movement, with textured frame side covers for enhanced grip.

  • Efficient Cooling System: Features rhomboid-shaped radiators that offer a 6.5% larger radiating surface for improved engine cooling.

Availability and Pricing:

  • The Ducati Desmo450 MX is expected to be available in Europe starting in June 2025 and in North America in July 2025.

  • The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) in the United States is $11,495.

Ducati's Motocross Journey:

  • Ducati's off-road project began in 2021.
  • They entered the Italian Pro Prestige MX1 Championship in 2024 with a prototype, achieving victory in its debut year with Alessandro Lupino.

  • In 2025, the Aruba.it Ducati Factory MX Team is competing in the MXGP World Championship.

  • Nine-time FIM Motocross World Champion Antonio Cairoli has been involved in the bike's development.

The Ducati Desmo450 MX represents a significant step for Ducati, bringing their high-performance engineering and racing expertise to the competitive world of motocross. It boasts unique technology like desmodromic valves and advanced electronics, aiming to deliver a distinct and competitive experience for motocross riders.
