Product Description

The 2027 Honda CRF450R represents one of the most comprehensive, ground-up redesigns Honda has given its flagship motocross bike in over a decade. Developed with massive input from the HRC factory racing teams, the 2027 model addresses almost every legacy complaint about the previous generation, yielding a bike that is significantly lighter, more powerful, and far more stable.

1. Massive Weight Loss & Compact Engine

Honda pulled off an engineering miracle by shaving an unheard-of 9.9 pounds off the machine. The bike hits the scales at a lean 238.1 lbs curb weight (226.4 lbs dry).

  • The Engine: The 450cc Unicam engine is completely redesigned, coming in 17mm narrower and accounting for 6 pounds of that total weight savings alone.

  • More Grunt: Despite being smaller and adhering to a quieter pro-racing sound limit (109 dB via a longer header and muffler), peak power is up a staggering 10.3% and peak torque is up 3.7%.

  • The "Slipper" Clutch: The clutch assembly is completely new, shrinking in diameter by 7mm. It introduces a rubber-damper-activated back-torque-limiter system. This acts like a slipper clutch, eliminating "grabby" engine braking behaviors and drastically reducing unsettling chassis pitch when you chop the throttle before a bump.

2. Redesigned Chassis & Stability-Focused Geometry

Historically, the CRF450R has been praised for cornering but criticized for being twitchy or unstable at high speeds. For 2027, Honda has lengthened and slacked out the bike to make it a more planted, predictable machine.

  • The Frame: Roughly 70% of the aluminum twin-spar main frame is new, optimizing rigidity. The swingarm is 1.1 lbs lighter with a new D-shape profile to slice through ruts better.

  • New Stance: The wheelbase has been lengthened to 58.7 inches (0.3 inches longer than before), the steering rake is slacked slightly to 27.5°, and the rear axle is raised by half an inch.

  • Rider Triangle: The footpegs have been moved 5mm rearward to help riders naturally shift weight over the rear wheel for better traction. The bodywork is slightly wider at the shrouds and seat to provide a better surface to grip with your legs.

3. All-New Showa Suspension Technology

The suspension moves away from traditional valving setups to offer a much smoother, consistent stroke.

  • Front Forks: The 49mm Showa coil-spring fork ditches the old Bending Check Valve for a Dynamic Blow System (DBS) main-piston valve structure. This eliminates strict "steps" or harshness in the fork's travel. The spring rate has also been stiffened up from 5.0 N/mm to 5.2 N/mm.

  • Rear Shock: Features a brand-new linkage system, an updated shock body, and a factory-style bladder designed to completely eliminate the harsh "kickback" common in previous model years.
